How do you choose the right warning markings for construction site vehicles?
Certain vehicles and machines found on construction sites are required by law to be marked with warning signs. In this article, we explain how you can easily select the right warning signs for all these vehicles and which construction site vehicles require them.
Warning markings are precisely defined and serve to ensure the safety of construction site vehicles
Due to the special operating conditions and downtimes and locations, construction site vehicles must be particularly visible. However, the retro-reflective warning markings not only serve to improve visibility, but also mark the construction site vehicles as such, with so-called special rights according to § 35 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). These rights include, for example, the permission to park in certain places where private cars are not allowed to stop.
The warning markings themselves are defined in more detail in DIN 30710. They consist of a special reflective red and white film. The film must be applied in a specific manner – pointing to the left or right – as a so-called standard surface (141 × 141 mm) in a specified number. There must be four of these standard surfaces on the left and right front and rear of the construction site vehicle.
Which construction site vehicles must be equipped with warning markings?
In principle, all construction site vehicles, as well as machines and large mobile tools, must be marked in this way. In addition to cranes, concrete mixers, assembly and scaffolding vehicles, these primarily include: (mini) excavators, Hako/Multicar, lorries, transporters, forklifts and other cars, including their trailers.
In addition to the regulations governing their marking and handling, there may be other country-specific laws that go beyond the Road Traffic Regulations and general workplace safety requirements.
How to choose the right warning markings for your construction site vehicles
Warning markings are available on rolls or as warning marking sets. The roll warning markings or contour markings are well suited for flexible marking of various construction machines and the like. Classic construction site vehicles such as transporters, lorries and excavators are best equipped with ready-made sets.
These warning marking sets consist of around 10 parts and are already cut and shaped to fit the contours of the vehicle perfectly. This makes application and installation child's play. The elimination of time-consuming cutting not only makes the process faster, but also cleaner, and the accuracy of fit also increases the service life. Why choose warning marking sets for construction site vehicles?
The selection process is particularly easy and, thanks to the prefabricated parts, installation is intuitive even for laypeople. But that's not all: the warning markings as sets can be easily stocked up so that replacements are immediately available in case of damage. This not only saves time, but also money.
Whereas with conventional methods, the entire warning marking on one side of the vehicle may have had to be laboriously replaced in the event of damage, with sets this can be done selectively. Experience shows that with sets of 8, 10 or 12 parts, it is rarely the case that all of them are damaged, but usually only one or two. You can reorder these parts separately at low cost to replenish your stock set.
